Big News!

I am incredibly excited and honored to announce my artwork was chosen by the Town of Rolesville Parks & Recreation for the 2024 Trail Art event!

What is “Trail Art”? “Trail Art” is an award-winning initiative that combines the arts with the natural beauty of the Town of Rolesville’s greenways and trails. This program won the North Carolina Recreation & Park Association’s Arts & Humanities award in 2022. This will be the 4th year the Town of Rolesville Parks and Recreation Department will hold this event which entails two art pieces being placed along the greenways every day for the entire month of June. Finders keepers - find a piece and take it home with you!

Submissions opened in January of this year and I turned in my samples, pictured below, just a few days before the deadline.

My “Whimsical Mushrooms & Friends” submission for the Town of Rolesville Parks & Recreation Trail Art 2024 event. In June, two art pieces - including the ones pictured here - will be placed along the greenways in Rolesville. Find a mushroom and take it home!

When I learned about this event on Instagram the beginning of the year, I immediately knew I wanted to make something to submit - after all, polymer clay is a fantastic medium for artwork that will be placed outside. Not only did I immediately know I wanted to participate in this event, I instantly thought mushrooms. And to take it a step further, why not give these bright, colorful mushrooms a little friend!

And “Whimsical Mushrooms & Friends” was created.

I made a few rough sketches, jotted down some notes and ideas, and eventually made a couple of prototypes. Each piece is meant to be “one of a kind” but I wanted the size to roughly be consistent as well as the basic shape so I spent some time figuring those processes out as well.

With 100 of these adorable little guys to make by May 24th, I am already hard at work on them and sharing some behind-the-scenes of the process over on Instagram so be sure to follow me over there at the_daisy_butterfly.

I am looking forward to June when all these little guys will be out and about, ready to be found!
