Last week was all about finishing small art pieces for dance teacher gifts. Our dance recital and ballet performance was Alice in Wonderland so I tried to tie the them in with each gift. "Cheshire Cat Ballet" - for our very favorite ballet teacher who has been part of the girls' lives since they were tiny dancers. This was her last recital as she retires after 35 years of teaching. We will miss her for Sam's last year of ballet but I hope she enjoys the well deserved rest and time with her family!! An angled view of the Cheshire Cat. Our ballet teacher loves cats so doing the cat plus ballet shoes seemed an obvious choice. Next up, some cute pups in a Wonderland dog house. This one was for our hip hop/stretch & strengthen teacher. She was also one of the co-founders of the studio and a teacher (and once studenr) at the girls' previous studio. So basically, we've also known her quite a while. She has two adorable doggies I wanted to feature and thought "shrinking" them down and placing them in Wonderland would be cute. Our musical theater teacher loves Gingerbread Men (one of my personal faves too!). So I put one in the same costume as the girls for a Mad Hatter Gingerbread! I will add a photo of Sam in her costume in my stories so you can see the comparison. The one piece I didn't exactly work in the Wonderland theme was for our tap teacher. The girls' performance this year was to The Beatles song "Eleanor Rigby". It was a favorite for everyone and did well at their competitions. I was inspired by a piece of art I found of the white silhouettes of the Beatles walking across Abbey Road and because of the girls' dance knew a similar look would be really effective. So I printed out some photos of the dance, cut a few of the poses out and used those as stencils to create their silhouettes. I put the silhouettes on a background collage of music notes I created by first silkscreening the notes on ivory clay, then tearing pieces off and placing them on a black background. For our new studio director, the Queen of Hearts. One of the dance mottos she uses on the website is we are a studio that dances with heart. Seemed a perfect match for this piece! Styl

Just a little sideshow album of some of my past tiny clay art tiles. All of my clay art pieces are one-of-a-kind original pieces. I may recreate similar designs - like the mushrooms and the lilies- but no two are ever the same.

Throwback to my first small art piece. I don't title every piece of work but I did title this one - "Spring Bloom". Inspires by the ombre autumn trees in our neighborhood, I wanted to make a rainbow tree for spring. I made this in March of 2024. I took it to markets, listed it on Etsy, and placed it in my first retail location for a while. I received lots of compliments but no buyer....until December of 2025. To my shock, while in my second retail location this little piece of art sold - possibly to be given as a Christmas gift. 🤗 This one will always be special as my first little art piece and I truly love it - but I also appreciate seeing the growth that has happened since and the way I am willing to take bigger risks with my art now.

Sharing another small art piece. 3x3" conch shell with flowers. Most of the time I keep my clay tiles as is, maybe add a clay frame or border, but this one I decided to mount on a shadow box frame. I am on the search for small shadow box frames with either removable glass or no glass as I would prefer to leave the clay piece exposed. I often share things on my story, forgetting they are temporary, and neglect to post things on my feed worth keeping around. Here is a recent "tiny art" piece I made for my daughter's boyfriend (and his family) after they lost their family pet of 14 years. 🥺 I have been more and more into creating small pieces of art, sculpting, shaping and cutting by hand (as opposed to pre-made cutters). I have several pieces going currently on my desk that I can't wait to share...but they are gifts so it will have to wait another week or so. At times I am swamped with market prep - like the next 3 weeks - but I am always open to taking custom orders, especially for special pieces of art, as long as you don't mind waiting a little for the finished product.
